Join us at our next in-person Tech Leadership meetup. There will be drinks and snacks to kickoff the evening.
The event will be hosted at the Ozow offices in Cape Town (10th floor, Portside Building, 5 Buitengracht St, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town) - please note that there will be limited parking. There is street parking (which is subject to normal parking tariffs) around the building, but it may be advisable to take an Uber.
The agenda for the evening will be as follows:

18:00 - 18:15 - Introduction and house rules.
18:15 - 19:00 - Main speaker - Brian van Vuuren.

Topic of Main Talk - Navigating the Chasm: from Contributing to Coordinating, while staying Connected
Transitioning from an individual contributor and team member, to a software development manager on an IT floor can be a jarring and disconcerting experience. Although stepping away from the tech, it's important for IT manager to still connect meaningfully with their direct reports, and their developer cohorts at large. This requires a considered and intentional approach to 'wearing both hats' that doesn't really exist in books or blogs - it's something that needs to be curated and developed by each new manager as they navigate this transition within their organisations. This is my experience of that journey (so far).
As a trained engineer-turned-developer, Brian's has always leaned towards effectively coordinating processes, projects and people to achieve excellent outcomes in tech. After a few years of honing his trade as a developer, he transitioned into a software development management role, where he is still learning daily lessons in how to best manage, support, and inspire developers.
