Topic of Main Talk - My Biggest Tech Debt: Being an Engineering Manager (And How I Refactored My Career)

Many Individual Contributors (ICs) face the inevitable career pivot toward Engineering Management (EM). This transition is often pitched as the default path for growth, but what happens when the fulfilment of shipping code is replaced by the burden of process and people?

This talk is a transparent, firsthand account of a common career trajectory—the journey from an IC to an EM and back again. We will unpack the psychological and technical conflicts that arise when a builder must become a multiplier, and explore the critical lessons learned about aligning personal value with career titles.

Amogelang is a full-stack engineer who is primarily passionate about working in early-stage startups. With experience across E-commerce, Logistics and Insurance, he thrives in turning ambiguous problems into experiences that delightfully solve customer problems. Currently, he is contributing to helping Naked build an insurance product people love.
