Define your own role: Navigating your path as a Senior Developer

As a senior software developer, I spent years building a broad spectrum of skills, and increasing my responsibilities within the team. I’d been walking a well worn path in my career trajectory.

When I reached this step, the next one was unclear, none of the roles on offer within the company quite aligned with my passions and didn’t allow me to unlock my full potential and drive for success for both myself and my organisation.

I’m going to share with you my personal journey of creating the role of a front-end architect that I wanted to exist within my organisation. How I started with an idea of what I wanted my next role to look like, how I got support from my manager and the organisation, and how I developed myself to take on that new role. This journey not only advanced my career, but also contributed to my team’s and organisation’s success.

Through my experiences, I aim to inspire everyone to not be limited by the existing roles and pathways on offer and for senior leaders to cultivate a culture of empowerment and growth within their teams.
