13.10 Organ Recital in a beautiful Wren church

Geoff Howells - Organ

Dietrich Buxtehude: Präludium in D minor

Andrew Keeling: Manawyddan's Glass Door

Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck: Variations on "Unter Den Linden Grune"

JS Bach: Toccata and Fugue in F

Now based in Cardiff (South Wales), Geoff Howells is from Derby and studied at York - as Minster Organ Scholar under Francis Jackson, The Royal College of Music (John Birch) and Paris (Rolande Falcinelli). His early work was as cathedral assistant organist (St Albans/Sheffield) before pursuing a career as a public school Director of Music (Sedbergh/Rossall) and as a freelance player/choral conductor.

He completed the circle when he returned to church music as Director of Music at Lancaster RC Cathedral. He has performed in all leading London venues and cathedrals/festivals throughout Britain and made BBC recordings of Messiaen's "La Nativite Du Seigneur" and Neilsen's "Commotio". Since moving to Wales in 2007 he has devoted time to playing both early and contemporary music, composing, examining and to forming two performing ensembles: BellaDonna and Early Byrd. He has sung with Cantemus, Welsh Camerata and Welsh Sinfonietta Chorus. Although he focusses on early repertoire (up to c1750), he always endeavours to include music by at least one living composer.
