TechRise #3 - The Power of Public Speaking and Presenting

Details

Hello everyone!

We are very excited to announce the next TechRise MCR meetup on 14th Sept and the theme this time is all about public speaking and presenting skills (as well as general communication skills)

We've also very excited to have welcomed two new co-organisers into the team as well - Gareth Brobbin and Jess Stewart!

The art of being able to captivate your audience, get them to hear what you have to say and leave a lasting impression is a skill that opens many doors and opportunities and can massively elevate your career.

This isn't just beneficial for those who are public speakers (or want to be), these skills benefit everyone as you communicate with your team, stakeholders and clients on a daily basis through demos, review sessions and knowledge-sharing sessions. You might even have to do a presentation in interviews too.

Agenda

5:45pm - doors open
5:45-6:30pm - food and networking
6:30-7:30pm - session 1: public speaking/presenting talks
7:30-7:45pm - comfort break
7:45-8:30pm - session 2: interactive workshop session
8:30pm - off to Duttons for a few drinks (no obligation to drink!)

(Please note these timings are an estimate and the event may finish slightly later)

About session 1:

After the intro we'll kick off with a series of short talks (ranging from 5 to 10 minutes each) from our speakers:

  • Neil Stewart - Client Directly at ANS Group: "How to sell without selling
  • Jessica Stewart - Agile Coach at BAE Systems: "Sprint Demo; You know you want to"
  • Wayne Bennett - Director and Founder of Made4Tech Global: "How I found my flow"
  • Parul Singh - Recruitment Marketing Partner and Neurodiversity Advocate at xDesign. Founder of TechRise MCR: "Quick Fire Tips On How to avoid death by PowerPoint"
  • Leigh Rathbone - Head of Quality Engineering at CAVU: "Be that authentic speaker"

About session 2:

After the break, we'll kick off our interactive workshop session led by Jess Stewart. In small groups, you'll brainstorm different areas of presenting and public speaking to share ideas and tips from a wider perspective

You can be more of a passive participant in this interactive session, and you don't have to be super experienced on the topic to contribute.

We will produce a whitepaper from the findings of the interactive session to share for free with the wider community so others can learn more about the topics and elevate their careers too.

Our sponsor

TechRise wouldn't be possible without our sponsor, xDesign, so a big shoutout to them for supporting the Manchester tech community ❤️ Check out their open roles here.

Request for donations

We will have an area in the main event space to take donations for those struggling in Manchester at every event to ensure we're helping those in need in our community.

We appreciate times are hard for everyone, but if you can we politely ask that if you are able to could you please bring a donation for our food bank partners. We are asking for baby food, nappies, infant formula, hygiene wipes, tampons, sanitary pads, halal food and socks.
