The theme for our first Tech Talk is... drumroll... Machine Learning! Our first speaker will be Marius Kok from the Dutch Police. He will discuss how the Dutch Police addresses innovation. The second speaker is Erik van Hilten, from National Instruments, and he will be talking about the challenges faced when testing autonomous vehicles.

In their work, the police apply machine learning to find financial criminals in Big Data, drivers who are texting, to adjust face photos for confrontation purposes and to find internet fraud using smart chatbots. It can be a rough road to follow when introducing something new to the daily job of the police force. In this talk, Marius explains how they are organised to get this done.
Often the tech sounds fancy, but what they really need is working solutions that are independent from cloud computing providers such as Google, Microsoft or Amazon. Because a part of their time they are just re-inventing the wheel. So this is your challenge there. Can the police work with an AI tenant instead of a cloud provider?

== About Marius Kok ==
I have worked for the Dutch police for 14 years. I studied at the Technical University of Delft (graduated in 1988) in Industrial Design Engineering. So, I’m not a native AI expert. I’m an expert on connecting people concerning knowledge-intensive issues. A creative bridge builder. I facilitate on a strategic, tactical and operational level to turn an innovation into a useful service. Currently, I hold the position of ‘Team Chief Pre-Development’, a part of the ICT organisation of the Dutch police. Former positions include Operations Manager, Logistics Manager, Release Manager and Product Designer.

How Will Machine Learning and AI Affect the Way We Test?
We are on the verge of a revolution in the way computing is performed. Instead of logic algorithms, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) are finding their way into self-driving cars and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Erik van Hilten, Senior Technical Engineer at National Instruments, discusses challenges of autonomous vehicles, and specifically with the use of neural networks in their systems. From a test perspective, this poses several challenges in meeting safety standards like ISO 26262 as inputs and outputs are loosely correlated. Here is your challenge: how can these be tested to ensure the safety of passengers and other traffic?

== About Erik van Hilten ==
I'm a technology enthusiast and I love to explore new technology everyday. You can imagine I'm very excited to be working with National Instruments, for almost 20 years, where I can get up close with the latest products and trends in the industry, such as Industrial IoT, embedded systems and advanced driver assistance systems.
