Labor Unions 101

Details

Help! I need a union! There’s a groundswell of interest in labor organizing, and organizing in the tech sector. People are starting to recognize that all workers are stronger united, exercising collective power and bargaining. But getting started is intimidating. What can a union do and not do? How does someone go about trying to organize with their coworkers? What are the first steps to take, and what are reasonable goals to shoot for? Organizing takes patience and attention, but that’s all. Anyone who wants to fight for better working conditions for themselves and their coworkers can -- there’s no magic, just care and dedication. This workshop, by the New York Tech Workers Coalition and the Tech 1010 local of OPEIU will introduce the basics of unions and labor organizing, and help you take those first steps in building workers collective power to transform and improve your workplace.
