Details

You've heard from lots of great people at our events.

Come hear from your fellow Webbies!

We're hosting a "Member's Show and Tell" Thursday July 10th at 6:30pm at Ogilvy!

Learn about the cool new projects your fellow Webbies are working on! It's super casual. They'll have 5 minutes to tell us about their project, followed by about 5 minutes of Q&A.

Here's Our Speakers:

Matt Farmer - Software Engineer

Matt's Talk: I'm interested in presenting my new product I'm building, Depend On, at the Show & Tell. Depend On automates software updating. After logging in with GitHub, users will be able to select repositories to monitor, and then get pull requests that update their build definition when any managed dependencies are updated. It's able to update dependencies on Scala, Java, and Node.js projects with some command-line tinkering. I have an eye toward expanding our platform support to Ruby, Python, and Go soon.

Jenn Downs - UX Researcher

Jenn's Talk: During My So Called Sabbatical of 2014, I spent some time studying how other people handle user interviews and usability tests. What I’ve learned so far is that we as an industry have a lack of preparation and confidence when it comes to meeting with our users. This can lead to awkward and unproductive interviews and possibly even bad results and recommendations! I’m going to continue studying how people conduct their user research to see where we can improve our interviews and build up our confidence. I’d love to tell you a little more about what I discovered and find out from you where you struggle with your research.

David Kobia - Co-Founder of Ushahidi and BRCK. Staking Africa's claim on the future

David's Talk: Why do we use technology designed for London and Los Angeles when we live in Nairobi and New Delhi? We set out to redesign the modem for the developing world, for our current reality. I'll expound on the genesis of the idea, challenges, and the iterative process of getting to where it is now.

John Saddington - Hacker. Investor. Educator.

John's Talk: As the world looks toward a future focused on a browser-based applications (and even as an entire OS) I've become more enamored by native desktop apps. Call me contrarian I suppose. Desk Publishing Machine is an application 13 years in the making and I'd love to show you my passion.
