Let's meetup and slim down our containers
Details
Containers are like humans over Christmas, it is just too easy for them to put down extra layers of fat.
Those extra layers can be dangerous for both humans and containers.
In the case of containers, these layers often include libraries which are not necessary, but which increase the attack surface.
This goes against security best practices, including the GDPR goal of "privacy by design and default".
In this seasonal talk we will discuss how we can put our containers on a diet with some open source tools from Oracle.
-
Smith (https://github.com/oracle/smith), helps our containers lose weight by turning them into microcontainers.
-
Crashcart (https://github.com/oracle/crashcart) allows us to make sure that the weight loss is healthy by allowing us to debug running microcontainers.
We will also explore how Java 9 has undergone a major diet, and how to make diet-java runtime, perfect for micro containers.
And the extra kilos from all the mince pies and Christmas cheer? Sorry, don't have a tool for that yet.
Venue
The meetup is held at the big meeting room on the top floor. Pizza and (low carb) softdrinks will be provided. Stay behind and chat about any interesting tech stuff
