About us

Welcome to Tech Connect Donostia, an international group for tech and business enthusiasts in Donostia-San Sebastian!

👋 About this group: I am Luis, a local from Tudela (Navarra), working as a software developer at a Madrid ERP company, Factor Libre S.L. The group was founded by Sasha Pometko, a product designer in tech, who now moved to other horizons. I’ve been living in Donostia for more than 20 years. I'm in love with the city, but sometimes I wish I would live in Madrid or SF, lots of tech and entrepreneurship events.

🧑 For whom? The group is open to anyone interested or working in tech/business/entrepreneurship/whatever related, including Product Designers, managers, sales representatives, investors, engineers, developers, product owners, digital nomads, etc.

Structure of the meetup:
The events provide a relaxed and informal environment for participants to connect with like-minded individuals, share ideas, and learn from each other while sipping a drink or a coffee. The formats vary between informal chats, guided conversations, speaker presentations, or a mix of things.

We'd love for you to come with ideas and willingness to facilitate sessions too sometime!

🗣️ Which language will we be speaking? English (no need for a perfect level though)

An Austrian approach to economics, mental models, and capitalizing on your knowledge.

    About the talk

We spend weeks researching which $500 washing machine to buy, but we often invest our life savings based on a quick tip from a friend or a trending crypto tweet. Why do we act this way with our money?

This talk breaks down the complex worlds of economics, investing, and artificial intelligence into simple, everyday reality. It is designed for anyone who wants to stop gambling with their money, understand how markets actually work, and learn how to stay relevant in the future.

We will cover three main topics:

    • Economics & Reality: Why traditional economic models fail by confusing symbols with reality. We’ll use the Austrian Economics perspective to understand how human behavior—not just cold math—drives prices and value.

    • Investing vs. Gambling: Why most people lose money in the stock market. We'll explore cognitive biases, the magic of compound interest, and why the stock market reflects human expectations rather than the actual reality of companies.

    • Surviving the AI Era: As Artificial Intelligence becomes a cheap, everyday commodity (like electricity or water), how do we keep our jobs and businesses valuable? We will discuss why human trust, creativity, and connection are the ultimate assets.

Whether you are an entrepreneur, a creative, or just someone looking to make smarter financial decisions, you will leave with clear mental models to navigate the noise and protect your wealth.

    About the speaker

Jordan Zapata is a multidisciplinary visual creative who dove into the world of economics driven by a simple goal: to truly understand how the world works.

Coming from a creative background rather than a traditional corporate or financial one, Jordan brings a fresh, unfiltered perspective to markets and technology. He acts as a bridge between two worlds, taking the complex, abstract models of economics and translating them into clear, visual, and practical ideas.

As a continuous learner and independent researcher, his focus is on decoding the hidden forces that shape our behavior, our money, and our future. Jordan believes that the best way to survive the noise of the market and the AI era is not through complex math, but through multidisciplinary thinking, human psychology, and a lot of common sense.

🗣️ Language: English (Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be perfect!)
