New Tech for Good Meet Up! Making the Makers, young people and digital making

  • Mar 16, 2015 · 6:30 PM

February blues getting you down?  Still disappointed they never made the Thundercats film?  FEAR NOT! It’s time for the next #techforgood!

We’re being hosted by the fabulous Kano in their offices in Whitechapel. Join us for inspiring talks, amazing people and obscurely titled hipster beer.  We’re bringing together people who are supporting the next generation of digital makers. Whether coders, hackers, hardware nuts or fixers, we’ll be hearing from the organisations who are supporting young people to develop digital making skills to change the world.

We’re lucky enough to have:

Alejandro Simon - Head of Software at Kano. As Kano’s first employee he’s seen it all.  From packing the first Kano boxes through to their global expansion.  Alejandro’s sharing his insights into how to build a global tech company whose mission is to give young people a simple, fun way to make and play with technology, and take control of the world around them.

Bethany Koby - Co founder and Director of the almighty Technology Will Save Us. Technology Will Save Us make DIY kits and resources so young people can learn skills, make cool things and begin their own journey as a tech maker. They are also awesome. Bethany will be taking us through her founders journey and sharing lessons we can all learn a lot from

Dr Chris Thorpe - Co founder of I Can Make -  I Can Make sells fun, educational content for your 3D printer. Downloading their files means young people in and out of school can make iconic objects and learn about them while creating their own models. Chris is sharing his knowledge and experience from building a start up after his previous experience as CTO of Moshi Monsters and helping set up GDS.

Ursula Davies - Managing Director at Makerversity, a community of maker businesses based at Somerset House. Ursula has forged partnerships with organisations such as Prince's Trust and Pearson to design hands on learning programmes for young people. Makerversity also provides DIY lessons for educators, giving them the tools and lesson plans for learning through making.

Huge thanks to Kano for hosting us.  If you are working with young people and technology, interested in this area or working in edtech you should come down, drink the beer (or soft drinks), soak up the wisdom and share your own :)

These meet ups are always sold out so get in quick!
