Meet Our Moderator & Panelists
Moderator: James Andrew - Technical Director at Omega One
Currently working as part of the core team at Omega One, building the world’s most advanced Cryptocurrency trading platform. James was deeply involved in the electronification of Wall Street, first as a “SOES” trader and then as operator of several large, high volume trading operations. At one point, James was responsible for the flawless execution of ten percent of NASDAQ’s daily trade volume. Then, in 2001, James became one of the first to define a new category of automated, high velocity trading, generally termed High Frequency Trading. His “Liquidity Engine” was the first NASDAQ automated market making system to route orders among the leading “ECN” markets. His system placed more daily orders on Bloomberg’s trade execution platform then all of their institutional clients combined. In 2013 James was an early adopter of Consumer Virtual Reality, quickly becoming a well known thought leader, conference presenter, and highly regarded designer of many iconic VR experiences. After a year and a half as Technical Director at New York’s largest VR company, James recognized the global and historical significance of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency and made the move into the space by joining Omega One.
Panelist: Alex Tsankov - Managing Partner at Cambrian Crypto & Blockchain Engineer at Paxos
Alexander Tsankov is a NY-based blockchain developer working with Paxos on deployment of private blockchains and security of a top-50 Bitcoin exchange. He is currently in the process of raising capital for a fund, Cambrian Crypto, that seeks to make early, well-researched investments in disruptive blockchain projects. If data is the oil of the 21st century, blockchain is the tool that will allow us to extract tangible value from it.
Panelist: Monica Desai - Lead of Operations Strategy at Blockchain
Monica Desai is the Lead of Operations Strategy at Blockchain, where she focuses on new market opportunities and strategic partnerships. Before Blockchain, Monica was a bond trader at JP Morgan and worked in Strategy and Operations at Segovia and Quartet Health. She holds a BA in Math and Economics from Cornell University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Panelist: Nicole Tay, MPH - Blockchain Solutions Architect for HealthTech
Nicole Tay is a graduate of Columbia University (MPH- Epidemiology, Social Determinants) and is a blockchain solutions architect within the healthcare and science industries. Of Nicole’s accomplishments, she and her team won the grand prize at the Distributed Health 2017 Hackathon for developing an open source exchange for health research data, Mercantis. She is currently co-authoring a white paper for pharmaceutical adoption of blockchain and is a member of the board of directors at Science Distributed.
Panelist: Zac Prince - Founder and CEO of BlockFi
Zac's experience includes leadership roles at multiple successful tech companies. Initially in adtech, where he was a part of two successful acquisitions, Admeld (Acquired by Google) and Sociomantic (acquired by DunnHumby). Prior to starting BlockFi, he led business development teams at Orchard Platform, a broker dealer and RIA in the online lending sector, and Zibby, an online consumer lender. He graduated Cum Laude from Texas State University with a BA in International Business and minor in Spanish.
