Tech Meetup January 2024 - Glasgow

Details
Happy New Year 🎉
Join us at Civic House, Glasgow on the first Thursday of each month (2nd Thurs in January to let folk settle into 2024) or our free event featuring two talks on tech with soft drinks and pizza.
This month's talks
Talk 1: Lessons learned from scaling a high-growth tech company Darren Dalrymple, xDesign
In the talk Darren will cover some of the learnings, challenges and practical takeaways from delivering growth within Scotland's fastest growing technology companies over the past 10 years.
Talk 2: Data Engineering in the Rail Sector
Paul Mullen, Siemens
Trains don’t just move people; they also produce large amounts of data. Siemens Mobility manufacture and maintain fleets of trains across the UK and we need to monitor them to help keep them safe. In this introductory talk, we will be looking at look at data, some of its challenges and having a look at some of the data our trains produce. We then look at Apache Airflow, which we use to help build and execute our data pipelines.
---
All are welcome and there is no requirement to have any level of tech knowledge or experience to attend, just a desire to learn. Come along (bring your friends), network and learn something new with us!
To make Glasgow's Tech Meetup welcoming for people joining for the first time we implement the PacMan Rule.
The rule is:
“When standing as a group of people, always leave room for 1 person to join your group.”
More memorably, stand like Pac-Man! You can learn more about this here.
