Speaker 1 - Keith Harrison (https://www.linkedin.com/in/keithdharrison/)

"Why Software Goes Bad & How To Fix It"

Your first release is a success—on time and on budget. Your second release is 50% over budget, and now your third release is stuck in development hell. How did you get into this mess? How do you get out of it, and how do you prevent it from happening again?
In this talk, we’ll explore the benefits of engineering best practices such as Test-Driven Development (TDD), integration testing, Clean Code, and meaningful naming, and show how you can use them to deliver software successfully and repeatedly, time after time.
We’ll see how these practices reduce bugs, speed up change, improve team collaboration, and lower long-term costs. Whether you’re writing new code or maintaining legacy systems, this session will show how disciplined craftsmanship turns short-term effort into long-term velocity and confidence.

Speaker 2 - Peter Cockcroft (https://www.linkedin.com/in/peter-cockcroft/)

"Does Your Organisation have ADHD?"

Recognising dysfunction patterns & building healthier systems.
Your roadmap made perfect sense in January. By March, you've pivoted twice, started three "urgent" initiatives, and somehow the team is working harder than ever whilst delivering less. Sound familiar?
It did to me. Because I've felt this before. Not just at work, but in my own head & generally in life.

In this talk, I'll compare my lived experience of ADHD symptoms to similar dysfunctions I've witnessed in organisations. Time blindness, impulsivity, hyperfocus on the wrong things, emotional decision-making, forgetting what we learned. Turns out the patterns are remarkably similar, and so are the solutions.

We'll look at what ADHD management teaches us about building systems that work even on the bad days. Spoiler: it's not "try harder" or "have you tried a to-do list?"

Whether you're a manager wondering why your estimates are always fiction, or an IC trying to make sense of the chaos around you, this session offers a framework for recognition and practical recovery. Compassion included, blame not required.

Lastly, Tech Meetup couldn’t be brought to you without our amazing sponsors, so a huge thank you to:

We look forward to seeing you all soon, for great talks, networking, pizza and drinks!
