Description:
🚀 Agentic Programming 101: Practical ways to make AI tools work with you, not against you 💪
Modern AI coding assistants are quietly reshaping how developers work, but most people still aren’t using them to their full potential. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to get the most out of tools like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. We’ll walk through real-world workflows, live demos, and practical strategies that can make you 2x more effective in your day-to-day programming. Whether you’ve tried these tools and bounced off, or you’ve stuck with older assistants like Copilot, this workshop will help you see what’s possible.
You don’t need to bring anything, just come ready to learn how to supercharge your dev process.
FREE ENTRY – Pizza and beverages will be provided, thanks to our generous sponsor 7shifts!
What you’ll get out of it:
- How to set up your repo so AI assistants actually help instead of hinder
- Smarter workflows for PRs, issues, and GitHub CLI integration
- When to trust the model vs. when to take the wheel
- Common pitfalls (like over-eager exception handling) and how to avoid them
- Why MCPs aren’t worth the headache (and what to do instead)
Why attend:- You’ve never really used tools like Claude Code or Cursor, but you’re curious
- You’ve tried them, got frustrated, and want to see how the pros do it
- Your team/company hasn’t adopted AI coding yet, and you want to make the case
- You’re a web or backend developer (JS/Python especially) who wants to get ahead
Workshop format:
- 5–10 min intro
- 5–10 min live demo
- 10–15 min walkthrough presentation
- Solving a real GitHub issue live (pre-selected open source repo)
Speaker Bio:
Amir Shukayev (he/him) is the founder of an AI startup in Toronto and a former software engineer at Cohere. He’s spent the past year exploring how developers can integrate AI assistants into their daily workflow, making programming faster, more collaborative, and a lot less painful.***
