About us
"Inspiring talks and discussions to stretch our minds"
We aim to meet monthly to share our passions and expertise with each other. At a typical event, 2-3 volunteer speakers from the group talk about something they care about, followed by questions. Occasionally, we shall be organising themed panel discussions and also be attending other talks/panel discussions as a group.
We are a group of curious people from all walks of life who want to learn and get inspired from each other. The process also improves understanding of the "other side". Everyone is welcome to join, as long as you are curious.
To be a speaker at an event, you can talk about anything you care about; work, life experience, passion project, your big idea, etc. You donβt need to be an expert speaker. On the contrary, you are encouraged to use this group to better your public speaking skills. If you're interested in speaking, just email (support@tedstyletalks.freshdesk.com) the organisers with a summary of your topic. Note that all topics are encouraged, but sales pitches and anything discriminatory or defamatory is not welcome. If in doubt, ask.
The tickets to the events will be "pay what you feel" to help cover costs while also keeping the door open to attend/trial the event for free.

Topic
Practical, safe, and sustainable ways of using AI, especially in the public sectorSummary
We'll talk about how the trend of using extremely large language models hosted on the cloud might not be the best choice for many uses. Alternatively, a relatively smaller model might be safer, more economical, and environmentally sustainable, in the long run. This also empowers and upskills the existing workforce more compared to switching to hosted LLMs, making it more practical and useful. We'll look at the pros and cons of both approaches, followed by a practical demo of running a locally trained LLM on a consumer-grade device. If you have any particular questions you'd like to be addressed, feel send them through in the comments below.Expected Audience
The content is tailored primarily for an audience who:- are using, or considering, using AI at work
- have a basic idea of how LLMs work
- are concerned about data privacy and sovereignity when using AI tools
- want to know more about making and running their own LLMs
