Let's Take a Hike: Ranger Falls, Savage Gulf

Let's take a hike to explore Ranger Falls in Savage Gulf State Park. We will meet at the Greeter Falls Trailhead at 10:00 AM and go out along the Greeter Trail and down the Big Creek Gulf Trail. Assuming the water level in Big Creek is not to high, we will cross Big Creek and go out to Ranger Falls. This will be an out and back hike, so we will return back the same route, climbing out of Big Creek Gulf.
The hike is rated as hard covering 7.6 miles and 1,300 foot elevation gain. We will be finishing up near Greeter Falls and the Blue Hole swimming area, so as we complete the hike if people are interested in going to those features you can do that, though it is not part of the planned hike.

Here is a link the trailhead location on Google Maps Greeter Falls Trailhead . Once you are in the area there is good signage that will direct you to the West Trailhead.

This hike will be done along with the Mid South Hiking and Adventures Meetup. Plan for typical TN summer hiking and expect temperatures in the 80's and TN humidity, so back plenty of liquids. Pack lunch/snacks as we will take a break at the falls.

As you plan your trip please consider setting aside some time to visit the HWY 56 Coffee Shop in the center of Altamont, to grab some pre-hike caffeine or treats, and support a local business. Highway 56. After the hike we will plan on doing a post hike meal at a location to be determined.
