This workshop addresses the advancements and challenges in Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-to-Speech (TTS) systems in Nigeria. It explores the technological landscape through the lens of recent research and practical implementations, highlighting collaborative efforts and key contributions in the field. Participants will be introduced to a newly developed 1500-hour ASR/TTS dataset for Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba languages, designed to bolster speech technology applications. The session aims to equip participants with the resources and knowledge necessary to advance the field of speech systems in Nigeria.

Through presentations, discussions, and a practical session, this workshop will provide a thorough exploration of the landscape of building speech systems in Nigeria. The introduction of the new multi-language dataset will be a central feature, supporting the development of more inclusive technology solutions that cater to a diverse population. Participants will leave with the knowledge, resources, and tools to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with speech technology in Nigeria and beyond.
