Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Nostr Atlanta #5 - Forstr.org fumble along...684 John Wesley Dobbs Ave NE suite a1, Atlanta, GA
This meeting will NOT contain a prepared presentation, but will instead we will watch a short video and then attempt to perform the Frostr steps live and in person. Bring your laptops if you want to follow along for yourself.
Born out of a hackathon at TABCONF 2024, Frostr may have just solved Nostr’s most pernicious issue: the inability to reset your password if your private key gets compromised.
Started in October of 2024, Frostr just announced the alpha release of Igloo and Frost2x, a desktop and accompanying browser extension key signers for the Nostr ecosystem.
This meetup will not be dedicated as technical or not-technical Some topics we cover may be more developer focused, and others will be simpler stuff. If the meetup grows, we can think about whether we need dedicated developer nights or not.
What is Nostr?
A simple way to think of nostr is as a censorship-resistant social media protocol. In other words, instead of social media being owned by large tech giants, it could be a free and open protocol, the way email is.However, nostr is being used for much more than just building social media apps. Nostr flips the current internet paradigm of "dumb client/smart server" to "smart client/dumb server", by using relays and public-key cryptography. Nostr empowers users to control their own data.

What should I expect?
Every first Wednesday of the month is a Learning Bitcoin session at ATL BitLab. This week's topic will be posted ahead of time at atlbit.dev. Sometimes it may be a reading discussion group, other times it might be a presentation or workshop.Regardless, you do not need any prior knowledge to attend. Just come with an open mind.
Tonight's Topic
This past year's TABConf featured a Capture the Bitcoin challenge called the Taptree of Horror. Michael Tidwell will demonstrate how we built this elaborate puzzle and show us the secrets it contains. Expect to dive pretty deep with taproot during this session. Is this for me?
If you want to learn about bitcoin, then yes! While these sessions are engineering focused, many of our attendees are not engineers. Our crew also includes designers, hobbyists, product managers, entrepreneurs, and simply curious people who like to stay ahead of the curve with this technology.Schedule
6:00pm - Doors open, networking and socializing with beverages
6:30pm - Presentation or discussion starts
7:50pm - Wrap-up
8:00pm - The group migrates to a nearby restaurant for dinner - Security Night #12 - Cybersecurity, InfoSec, Hacking Meetup684 John Wesley Dobbs Ave NE suite a1, Atlanta, GA
Security Night is a time to chill with your fellow cybersecurity, infosec, and hacker buds! This is a place to socialize and learn about security and hacking. All skill levels welcome! Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to be a computer whiz to be a hacker. Hacking is simply using a tool or system for a purpose that it was not intended for.
Join us on the first Monday of every month for learning, engaging discussion, and following your curiosity with friends.
