“The lake is darker than a coffin with the lid shut,” she’d say. “And as deep as the ocean. If you sink under, you’ll never come back up again. You’ll be trapped forever.” - Riley Sager

James Frazer, a bit of a young rebel, abandoned his studies at the Miskatonic University in Arkham because he missed his sweetheart in Kingsport. Nine days earlier he left Arkham and has not been seen since. His Father, Gerald Frazer, received a phone call from him just after he left Arkham. As they argued, James informed his father he was dead tired and was going to spend the night at a motel before continuing the journey to Kingsport. As far as Gerald knows, James never arrived at Kingsport as his
sweetheart Emily claims he never arrived.

Gerald Frazer has contacted you, in regard to his missing son, James. He knows the investigators through mutual acquaintances (business, academic and otherwise) and wants this task performed quietly to avoid a scandal. As such he has contacted you by phone, and provided the details so far. You agreed to meet him at his home to discuss compensation and start your investigation. Should be a easy enough job........, right?

Servants of the Lake is a part of the Call of Cthulhu - Doors to Darkness, a book of scenarios and was written by Glynn Owen Barrass. It is set in Mid January of 1920 in an area between Arkham and Kingsport, Massachusetts. I will be bringing a batch of pre-generated characters for use. If a character you used prior makes sense to bring back, feel free. Pre Gen Archetypes are: Athlete, Criminal, Professor and Private Investigator. The game will most likely be 4 hours or less, depending on the players and should be one session but it may take two sessions to complete.
Please come online early or on time, as we will have a limited time to play. We should be done by 11pm. Call of Cthulhu uses a 2 d10 percent based system along with the "basic set" of dice used for RPGs (d20, d10, d8, d6, and d4). This game will be held online on the groups Discord Server via Voice Chat. We have a bot in the Server that can handle Dice rolls but Live rolling is allowed.

A heads up as to how I run games. I go for full horror. What that means, is slow moments of tension followed by moments of high terror. A roller coaster, if you will. Humor has its place at the table as long as it is within the game narrative. Please keep outside humor to a minimum as it distracts from the game. I also tend to focus on ROLEplay over ROLLplay. I have run games where dice rolls have been in the single digits. I am also flexible with the rules, which the main hard rule being If you roll equal or lower then your skill, you succeed and if higher, you fail. Everything else is up to me. No Rules Lawyers Please. Also Progression is not prominent in my games and this is because characters tend not to last too long. If your character survives 3 to 4 adventures, they will be a bit improved but your attachment to the character will be more based on the experiences he/she went through. Its about your STORY not your STATS. If none of this seems to be a match for your mentality, I would suggest trying another game, but if you are willing to give this play style a chance, feel free to attend.
