Bess McNeil meets and falls in love with a Danish oil-rig worker, Jan, and on the day they get married, Jan returns to his oil rig. Months later, he returns with a broken neck and is paralyzed. Jan and Bess are now unable to enjoy a sexual relationship, and Jan urges Bess to take another lover and tell him the details. Bess shows the unbelievable extent of her love and devotion to Jan.
