Professor Stanley Joseph Stepanic of the University of Virginia, who teaches a popular course on Dracula and vampire folklore, will guide us through the chilling world of early Slavic vampire beliefs.
Discover the first written evidence of vampires from a Russian text in 1047 A.D.
Learn about Slavic legal codes that describe vampire burials in the 14th century.
Hear stories of 18th-century vampire hysteria across Europe.
Explore graves of the “undead” whose bodies were mutilated to keep them from rising again.
Understand how rotting, corpse-like vampires evolved into the suave Dracula figure of literature—and how their echoes live on in zombie lore today.
