Talk 1: TMMi: Evaluating the Evaluators
Paul Ward, Senior Manager, EY
Paul has over 20 years of experience in test management, working in both government and large multinational corporations, building Test Centres, managing global test teams, and developing IT governance frameworks. He recently moved to Ireland from Australia and has joined Ernst and Young as a Senior Manager in the Digital Assurance team.
Paul was the first certified TMMi professional in Australia. He began using the TMMi in 2011 while establishing a TCOE in the Philippines. Since then, he has used it many times to evaluate test processes and map a maturity path.

The TMMi is recognised as the leading model to evaluate test maturity. Like the CMMi, it uses a staged approach, which means each level lays the foundation for the preceding higher level. It helps an organisation focus on a manageable set of process tasks and outcomes to achieve each level.
Paul will give an overview of what the TMMi is and how it works. Then provide a case study of where he used the TMMi to mature a test capability within a corporate setting.

Fran O'Hara, Inspire Quality Services - Director and Principal
Fran has over 35 years experience in the software industry having worked in development, test, management and now consulting. He co-founded Insight Test Services which was subsequently acquired by Sogeti. Fran now specialises in pragmatic approaches to lean/agile adoption, quality/testing, and associated practices. He works with a wide variety of clients helping to upskill teams and support improvements in their ways of working. He is a regular speaker at international conferences and seminars. Fran is a Certified/Professional ScrumMaster, Professional Product Owner, an ISTQB testing tutor at advanced level, and previously a CMMI and TMMi lead assessor. He co-organised Agile Tour Ireland and co-founded the Irish SIG in Software Testing – SoftTest. His tutorial ’Metamorphosis: Moving To Agile And Staying Agile’ won best tutorial at EuroSTAR Stockholm.

This session examines practical strategies for testers to upskill and adapt in a rapidly changing tech landscape. Discover how to use GenAI to enhance your testing while understanding the ways you can add real value in your role. We will cover upskilling options, including certifications and effective learning paths, and share practical resources and real-world tips.
