Lets Talk Test, Accessibility & Containers
Details
So after a great turnout for our last meetup we thought, lets do it again! So, we are super excited to announce our next in person meetup will be held at the amazing Roku Inc. offices in central Cardiff. 🥳
So, put the date in your diary and join us for an evening filled with awesome test talks, and of course, delicious pizza and drinks courtesy of our very generous hosts for the night, Plus, we’ll also have a £25 Amazon voucher giveaway courtesy of SR2 – Socially Responsible Recruitment up for grabs.
We've got two incredible talks lined up that you won't want to miss. Some of you eagle eyed test talkers will notice that we have had a slight lineup change due to Callum unfortunately being unable to make it last minute in person due to work commitments. We now have a fab new speaker lined up who has stepped in last minute to save the day. We have the team at Roku talking all about the benefits of using containers in software testing, and then Gianni giving us a talk all about accessibility
Talk One: "Accessibility", Gianni Au SDET at Holland & Barratt
‘Accessibility is a human right’- as quoted by one of the presenters at this year's Test Bash
With the ever-increasing importance of accessibility and with the latest EAA coming into action in 2025, it is now more than ever, crucial for companies to ensure their sites are accessible.
From a QA perspective Gianni will delve into a range of different tools, (both manual and automated), that could be used to help with accessibility testing. He will then talk about how we can use these tools and other initiatives from his own experiences, that can help create a culture of accessibility in the workplace.
Talk Two; "Exploring Container Benefits in Software Testing", Joe Bignell Senior Software Engineer, Test at Roku, and Elin Pendered , Software Engineering Manager, Test for Roku
This talk will give Insights into the potential advantages of using containers for software testing purposes. By adopting container technology, teams can potentially enhance their testing processes through improved resource utilization, isolated environments, and simplified deployment. Join us to learn how containers have impacted our software testing at Roku 😊
This meetup is open to everyone and anyone with an interest in Software Testing. We want to make this evening as friendly and welcoming as possible! Whether you're a first-timer coming on your own, or a seasoned attendee, we promise to make you feel super welcome. 😁
Here's a sneak peek of how the evening will unfold:
- 5:30 pm: Doors open – feel free to turn up from then. We've got an incredible spread of pizza, soft drinks, and alcoholic options, all free, courtesy of our hosts at Roku Grab a slice, mingle with our friendly crowd, and make some new connections. Need an introduction? Just chat with one of our organizers, or dive right in and say "hello!"
- Sometime between 6 and and 6:15 pm: It's showtime! We'll kick off the talks with a break in between for more pizza and refreshments.
We look forward to seeing you there 😁
