TestableLA is all about testing - how to write better tests, and how to make your code easier to test. We welcome talks on a variety of technologies and programming languages.

Come join us! Come early to chat and eat pizza, talks will start around 7.

This month we'll hear from:

  1. Will Ockelmann-Wagner: Testing React Components in 2019

It’s 2019, and there are SO MANY ways to test a React component. If you’re trying to figure out what to use these days, maybe I can demystify the choices a bit.

I’ll take you through three libraries (Enzyme, React-Testing-Library, and react-test-renderer) and three techniques (shallow render, full render, and snapshot testing). I’ve used them all, and I’ll try to help you figure out which ones are right for your next project.

Will is a software developer at Carbon Five. He started his career in accounting, but found that automating his job away was more fun than the actual job, and moved over to software. He’s into typed functional programming and tiny keyboards.

  1. DC Palter: Testing Application Performance over the Network

Everyone knows that if you don't have enough bandwidth, the application won't work well. What many developers and testers don't realize is that applications can be even more sensitive to latency, jitter, and packet loss of the network. But how to test? This talk will discuss the Network Simulator (also called WAN Emulator) and show how it can be used to test application performance over any type of network from 3G/4G to long-distance WANs to satellite networks.
