What we’re about
This group is facilitated by the Autism Society of Texas (AST). It is for Autistic adults (18 years old and up) living in Texas who want to be more socially active.
Self-identification of Autism is welcome, as are individuals experiencing social challenges due to a related disability (ADHD, SCD, NVLD, etc.) and those experiencing multiple disabilities and/or mental health conditions in addition to Autism.
Our meetings mainly consist of informal group discussions and hands-on activities related to topics such as: transition, soft skills, executive functioning, self-regulation strategies, and self-advocacy. The meetings also provide an opportunity for attendees to connect on their own terms, and to provide peer support in a safe(r) space.
At this time, the majority of our meetings are still being held virtually (via Zoom). This allows disabled adults in rural areas of Texas to also participate and build community.
If you are a parent/caregiver and plan to join on behalf of someone else who requires assistance with using MeetUp/Zoom, we absolutely understand and would be happy to accept your request! Otherwise, we strongly prefer to accept requests from prospective attendees themselves.
Membership requests for the group will be reviewed on a weekly basis. Please ensure that all membership questions are answered to facilitate timely approval.
**In order to attend a virtual event hosted by the group, you must RSVP. The number of attendees per event is capped so that the group is small enough for everyone to be able to fully participate. RSVPs will be closed 24 hours prior to the start of the event, or when the participant cap is reached (whichever happens first). Members who RSVP will receive an email and Google Calendar notification which contains the Zoom link to join. If you RSVP and later determine you cannot attend, please change your RSVP to open up a space for other members who may want to participate.**
If you have any questions or needs regarding local resource providers, diagnosis, therapists or groups in your area, please reach out to our Navigating Autism team at [support@texasautismsociety.org](mailto:support@texasautismsociety.org)
