What we’re about

This Meetup is not only for parties interested in Web Development…but also for both Networking Technologies & Professional/Social Networking.

I founded the former Silicon Valley Apache-LAMP Group circa 2008…which met @ Oracle’s Santa Clara Campus. This campus was a former California Insane Asylum…so me and the other “California Crazies” fit right in! This campus has the largest variety of exotic trees I’ve ever seen! Visit it if you make it out there!

Now, back to this new Meetup! We will be based in Grayson County…but the most difficult part of organizing any new Meetup is finding a FREE place to hold meetings… I have been a member of many Meetups, primarily in Silicon Valley and San Francisco. But I’m also a long time member of the JavaMUG group which meets in the north Dallas area.

Any companies that want exposure…or to find talent…we’re just looking for a FREE place to meet! Even if you can only host us once, that helps! Sherman would be preferable, but we will entertain any offers! In future, we may expand beyond Grayson County.

If you’re wanting to become a member…but don’t have transportation, we will attempt to coordinate transportation as well! Most all of us have been “on foot” at some time in our lives! Just join and we’ll work out the details as we go along!

We will primarily be covering open source technologies…because just buying a laptop is a substantial investment! Having to buy software too may not be financially feasible. You do NOT have to have a computer to join the group! Oftentimes people will share their computer while you’re learning. Additionally, if you have a computer, we will have meetings at which we will provide training…and “hand holding”…on how to setup your “development environment”…with FREE software!

I am a former Collin County Community College Continuing Education Web Development Instructor. I started teaching PHP there starting in 2005. I was recruited by one of my Collin County Java instructors to teach PHP…because I was the only person he knew that knew PHP! By the time I left CCCC in 2007, I taught more web technologies than anyone in the department! After a disagreement with a new Department Head, I quit and returned to Silicon Valley. But, since I’m originally from Denison, I come back here between jobs/contracts for cheaper cost of living.

Some of the technologies we will learn about are: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Java…and C# (C-Sharp)…which most Microsoft aficionados will tell you is so much better than Java… but, in fact, C# is just Microsoft’s implementation of Java! Also, we’ll toss in some Angular, AWS…and likely also some React…and frameworks such as Spring Boot…and PHP Frameworks such as Laravel…and databases such as MySQL…and NoSQL! If you’re a C or C++ Programmer, expanding your horizons to web technologies such as PHP, Java, and C#…and other web frameworks and technologies will come easy!

One of the most challenging tasks about organizing a new Meetup is finding a FREE place to meet… FREE is the key word in Meetup Organizing! In Silicon Valley and San Francisco…and even in North Dallas @ JavaMUG Meetups, there is normally FREE PIZZA…and drinks! Companies will “sponsor” these Meetups…and munchies…because they recruit talent there! (…And as President Trump says…”JOBS JOBS JOBS”!!!)

But, at first, we just need a FREE place to meet!
