Come Play: The Voyages of Marco Polo
Come Play: The Voyages of Marco Polo
**UPDATE:** The Board Room has closed permanently ๐Ÿ˜”. Therefore, we will be trying a new venue: Quincy Hall (https://www.quincyhallbar.com/) It's the first Thursday of the month, and that means we will be replaying a game we played recently: **The Voyages of Marco Polo.** Play as Marco Polo or one of several other historical figures, each with unique abilities, as you journey from Venice to Beijing. The game is played over five rounds. Each round, roll your dice and use them to take actions: gather money and resources, acquire contracts, travel across the map, and build trading posts in cities. Earn victory points by fulfilling contracts, reaching Beijing, building trading posts, and more. After five rounds, the player with the most points wins! We have two copies of the game, one with a 5-player expansion, so RSVPs have been set at 9. Let us know in the comments if you can bring a copy, and we will increase the RSVP limit.

Thursday Run: Ballston to Custis Trail
Thursday Run: Ballston to Custis Trail
Come join other guys in their 20s and 30s for a friendly group run. This run is not competitive and all skill levels are welcome. Join our [Slack](https://join.slack.com/t/arlington-run-club/shared_invite/zt-2lq70wa9t-INw_xk~MnZM~U41EQsKcXQ) to keep up to date with the group! **MEETING SPOT:** We'll meet a little before 6:30 PM at Ballston Local on N Glebe in front off the restaurant. See the pin below. Parking at the mall is only $1.00 after 6:00 PM. Then we'll head out right at 6:30 PM and eventually end up back where we started. **ROUTE INFO:** Here's our regular Thursday route, from the Bluemont Junction Trail to the W&OD Trail to the Custis Trail (about 4 miles): [https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/5952134599/](https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/5952134599/) When viewing the route, you may want to login with a MapMyRun account and bookmark the route so you can load it later from the MapMyRun app on your phone. **POST-RUN:** After the run, we'll grab a drink nearby for those who are interested in sticking around. **WEATHER:** We won't run in the middle of a thunderstorm, but we'll still go if there's light rain. Many of us will plan to meet at the start time regardless and we can make a call then. We've learned that the weather can change quickly, so there's not much point in canceling the run prematurely. **RSVP:** If you are interested in joining, please join the group and then sign up for this event so we know you're coming. You're welcome to bring a friend -- all guys in their 20s and 30s are welcome -- but please have them sign up through Meetup or shoot us a message so we know how many people to expect.

To qualify for this "A" group you must have participated in the Medium Level Thirsty Thursday. "A" group riders are expected to do the same route as the "B" group riders. You are welcome to do the Evil Twin hill as an added bonus. The only "stop" you need to make is at Fort Hunt. When at Fort Hunt you will wait for the "B" group to fully arrive. Both Medium and Advanced Levels might require handling various challenges such as reading cue sheets, using a Garmin or navigation app, night riding, out of town travel, or any other odd cycling situations. **+++++++++++++++++++++** **The Fine Print:** **+++++++++++++++++++++** An RSVP of 'YES' is your digital signature and means you have read and understood MEETUP.com's: * "Terms of Service : Section 6. Release" found at https://www.meetup.com/terms/ * NOVA-CBG's "Assumption of Risk Agreement" found @ https://www.meetup.com/novacbg/pages/1942951/NOVA-CBG_Waiver/ * NoVA CBG's "COVID Policy" found @ http://bit.ly/2021_NoVACBG_COVID19_POLICY Helmets are required to participate in all NOVA-CBG rides. All riders ride at their own risk and with the understanding that cycling is an inherently dangerous activity. When coming to the meetup you do so voluntarily and are ready and able to participate in the ride as described under the conditions of the day. Be on time for the "pre-ride" preparation. If you do not attend the pre-ride preparation you will not be allowed to participate on the ride. There are NO exceptions to the above.

Embassy Day: Visit the European Embassies in DC!๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช
**Please read entire post!** Let's go to Europe Together! ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Join us for one of DCโ€™s most exciting cultural eventsโ€”Embassy Day. On May 9th, the European embassies open their doors to the public! Experience food, culture, music, and architecture from across Europeโ€”all in one day. โš ๏ธ Important: You MUST Choose a Team Please use this sign up sheet to sign up for your TEAM: [https://grasshoppersignup.com/s/uukcb3](https://grasshoppersignup.com/s/uukcb3) To make the most of the day (and avoid long wait times), weโ€™re organizing into four breakout teams, each starting at one of the most popularโ€”and more distantโ€”embassies: ๐Ÿ…ฐ๏ธ TEAM A **(arrive at 9:30am)** โ€“ France ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท (Start your day here) Then continue to: Croatia ฑ๏ธ TEAM B **(arrive at 9:30am)**โ€“ Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น (Start your day here) Then continue to: Croatia ฒ TEAM C **(arrive at 9:30am)**โ€“ Germany ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช (Germany will be hosted inside the embassy of France). Then continue to: Croatia ณ TEAM D **(arrive at 9:30am)** โ€“ Spain ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ (Start your day here) Then continue to: Croatia ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ท Greece ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท Estonia ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ช Latvia ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ป Portugal ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น Bulgaria ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฌ Luxembourg ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡บ Cyprus ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡พ ๐Ÿ•˜ Game Plan Each team will start in the morning at their starting embassy to beat the crowds. Its important that you arrive around 9:30 AM, because lines will start to form. After your starting location, youโ€™ll follow your team route and explore the other embassies listed above. ๐Ÿš— Transportation Note Please Note: The embassies of France, Germany, Italy, and Spain embassies are farther away from the main cluster of embassies. We made them our starting embassies, because they usually have the longest lines, so if we start our day there, we can possibly avoid the lines, if we get there early enough. ๐Ÿš• We strongly recommend taking an Uber/Lyft to get from your starting embassy to the other embassies. ๐Ÿš— You can all share an Uber ride from the starting embassies and split the cost among each other. ๐Ÿ“ขFor Example if you're starting off at the French embassy and you finish, then you will need to uber to downtown DC to visit all the other embassies on the list. โœ…๏ธThese four embassies (France, Germany, Spain and Italy) are some of the most popular stops of the day. Starting early helps us avoid long lines and cover more ground. Letโ€™s explore Europe right here in DC ๐Ÿ’—

COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above. There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change. The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/). Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers. For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.
