Bluebells Walk in the Chilterns from Checkendon

Join us for an afternoon walk amongst the bluebells and through the woods in the Chilterns, starting from just outside Checkendon. It will be about 6 miles long, and not very hilly (for the Chilterns).

Those who aren't FULL MEMBERS OF THE CLUB (filled in a form and paid the annual fee), or members of another IVC, will be asked to make a small contribution to the running of the group (e.g. £2).

The walk starts from the left side of the road (coming from Checkendon), heads up the path to the right of a shallow pit, and then through a fence. There are large areas of bluebells around that main path before the fence, especially along minor paths off to the left. Anyone arriving early is welcome to wander around that area, as it's open access land as far as the green shepherd's hut.

Directions from Reading:
Head out of Reading on the A4074 (NW) towards Woodcote. About 2.3 miles after Cane End turn right to Checkendon. After going past the church on your left, then playing fields and then a red phone box on your right, turn right into Whitehall Lane. Continue on this road out of the village into Emmens Lane. About 250 yards after the speed derestriction signs it widens out as it enters a wood. We shall be starting from the large patch of bluebells on your left.
