Henley Café Sci: Understanding Cancer: what have we learned from nature?

Details
Café Scientifique organises talks, usually given by scientists, followed by questions from the audience in the second half. They are a great opportunity to explore the latest ideas in science and technology, you don't need to be a scientist to enjoy the evening, everyone is welcome to ask a question or make a comment. Join us for tonight's talk:
“‘Cancer’ is actually over 200 different diseases, with different causes and treatments. In such a complex field it is difficult to understand the unique approach required for each type of cancer.
This talk will illustrate how observations from ecology and evolutionary biology have given cancer researchers new tools in the quest to understand how cancer spreads and how to fight it.
Speaker: Leah Napier PhD AFHEA
Leah is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Reading. Her research aims to investigate the spread of cancer to the brain from other organs.
This investigation includes pre-clinical models that allows us to visualise how cancer cells establish themselves in the brain and how they adapt to the electrochemical signalling unique to neurones. ”
