Evening walk from near the Highwayman, Checkendon

Details

Whether or not you are coming to the meal at the Highwayman afterwards you are welcome to join us for a short (2 mile) easy walk in the nearby woodlands.

I have given the location as the Highwayman because Meetup can recognise that, but we will actually be starting from the side of the minor road that leads down to it, i.e. NOT starting from the pub. Click on the map to open it to see the exact location shown by the marker, and read the directions below for more details.

For those who want to eat afterwards - the pub has an excellent varied menu, ranging from nibbles to a full 3-course meal, or just have a drink if you prefer. It's a secluded country pub with tables outside, so we should be able to fully enjoy the warm summer evening (provided the weather holds).

Please book here for the walk, and on the "Evening Meal on the terrace at the Highwayman, near Checkendon" page if you want the meal afterwards.

Those who aren't full members of the club (filled in a form and paid the annual fee) will be asked to make a small contribution to the running of the group (e.g. £2), but that will cover the walk and the meal.

Directions from Reading:
Head out of Reading on the A4074 towards Woodcote. Go though Cane End, past a road on your left to Goring (B4526), then after just over ½ mile turn right along the minor road signed to The Highwayman. The walk will be starting from the footpath sign (difficult to see) on the left, about 235 metres (0.15 mile) after leaving the main road. There is roadside parking before and after the sign. Look out for some on your left immediately after passing an unsigned path off to the right, 150 metres (0.1 mile) after the main road.
