Henley Café Sci: Magnetism

Details

Café Scientifique organises talks, usually given by scientists, followed by questions from the audience in the second half. They are a great opportunity to explore the latest ideas in science and technology, you don't need to be a scientist to enjoy the evening, everyone is welcome to ask a question or make a comment. Join us for tonight's talk:

“The talk will explore the principles of magnetism and the types of magnets, permanent and electro that exist.

There are of course a huge range of applications of magnets, from fridge magnets to Maglev trains, so get ready for a fast ride!

Speaker: Joseph Boehm

Studied physics in Regensburg, Bavaria then PhD at Salford University,
Focused on cryogenics and magnetics (magnetic separation, MRI etc)
From 2015 at Rutherford Laboratory, Harwell, retired in 2023 but remains an Honorary Scientist at the Lab. ”

MAJOR ROAD CLOSURE
The organiser has warned that “Reading Road from Tesco roundabout to Harpsden Road will be closed Monday to Friday. This means that to get to Henley Hockey Club you may need to find a different route.”

But according to the Causeway website (linked from Oxfordshire CC roadworks), and the official closure notice, it is only closed between 20:00 and 06:00, so getting there shouldn't be a problem.

The official diversion going up the A4074 to Crowmarsh Gifford then back down the A4030 via Nettlebed is unbelievable! Turning left along Sheephouse Lane (hopefully just before the roadworks) towards Harpsden, then up Gillot's Lane to Grey's Road is the shortest I can find.
