Café Scientifique organises talks, usually given by scientists, followed by questions from the audience in the second half. They are a great opportunity to explore the latest ideas in science and technology, you don't need to be a scientist to enjoy the evening, everyone is welcome to ask a question or make a comment. Join us for tonight's talk:

“Entropy is one of the fundamental forces in nature which shows its disorganising effects everywhere we look at - and we cannot win.

It is stated in simple physical terms by a fundamental law of thermodynamics but it is relevant everywhere.

Heat engines and other machinery are subject it, but so are our actions in daily life. Ultimately, even time is formed by entropy.

Speaker: Josef Boehm, PhD

Physicist. Spent most of his career dealing with the application of magnetism and superconductivity.

Until recently with the Rutherford Laboratory at Harwell.”
