This is a loop hike of approximately 7 miles with an elevation gain of about 2,000 feet . Expect a challenging and adventurous route that includes boulder hopping, off-trail travel, and some bushwhacking . This hike is best suited for experienced hikers who are comfortable navigating uneven terrain.
We will begin at the Canyon Lake Marina Trailhead , following the Boulder Canyon Trail (103) to La Barge Creek . From there, we’ll travel over Paint Mine Saddle , then turn north into Boulder Canyon . The route continues with large boulder hopping as we descend the canyon until it intersects again with La Barge Creek . We’ll follow La Barge Canyon downstream to where it meets the water at Canyon Lake , then take a spur trail back to the trailhead , completing the loop.
Start Time:
We will begin hiking at 7:30 AM from the trailhead .
Parking & Carpooling:
Parking at the trailhead is free , and no Tonto Pass is required . If you prefer not to carpool from the church , please leave a comment.
What to Bring:
Sufficient water and nutrition for approximately 4 hours of strenuous hiking
Protection from the elements and rugged terrain (sun protection, sturdy footwear, etc.)
Any additional gear you typically bring as an experienced hiker
