This expedition begins in a Wild Zone, a region of Magical Pollution where the ontological defaults of reality were fractured by a long-past Magical Cataclysm.
The land is a barren, rocky rainshadow territory, where the soil can no longer retain enough water to sustain mundane life. This desolation is not natural. It is the result of a Trophic Collapse: apex predators such as dragons were eradicated, destabilizing the region’s ecological and magical hierarchies. With no forces left to regulate the system, the hydrological orthodoxy failed, and the rivers slowly vanished.
