Griffith Park Hike Redux in June

Details
Dear Afternooners,
We hope you can join us as we revisit this popular hike in Griffith Park. Please note the new meetup time of 2:30 p.m.
This is a lovely, moderate hike. It is a predominantly dirt trail lined with trees with views that include the Griffith Observatory, Downtown Los Angeles, and Century City. There are a series of gentle inclines for the first hour, with an additional three or four steeper but short inclines, and then a half hour of a steeper downhill climb to complete the loop. We can stop periodically if needed.
WHEN: Sunday, June 9th. We will meet up at 2:30 p.m. for introductions, and will start hiking at 2:45 p.m. The hike will be approximately one hour and forty-five minutes (likely shorter). Please make sure to give yourself enough time to park, get settled, and meet other Afternooners.
WHERE: Plug 3662 Cadman Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90027 into your GPS. This is the address for a gigantic house with three garages at the end of a dead-end street. Meet at the entrance to the trail lined with fences at the end of the street, adjacent to this house. The closest cross street to Cadman Drive is Griffith Park Blvd. Cadman Drive is not obviously labeled. You will see Cadman Drive, which is a flat street, seemingly mislabeled as “Shannon Road” with a yellow “Not a Through Street” sign greeting you at the beginning of the street. The Cadman street sign will appear on your right as you start to walk down the short street. The real Shannon Road is to the left, up a hill. You should avoid that street.
PARKING: There is free parking on Griffith Park Blvd. and Cadman. If you park on Griffith Park Blvd., be prepared to walk up to a few blocks to the meetup location. Wherever you park, please be respectful of the neighbors, as we are starting this hike in a quiet residential area and in fact a neighbor suggested that Cadman gets very congested and strongly suggested parking on Griffith Park Blvd.
BATHROOMS: Unfortunately, there are no bathrooms that we found on this trail. You can stop at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (located at: 2081 Hillhurst Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027) for the bathroom. The Coffee Bean is located in the Albertson’s parking lot, and you probably need to purchase something to use the restroom. There are other coffee shops and restaurants on Hillhurst Street as well.
BRING: Shoes with a good grip, sunglasses, a hat, water, and your favorite snacks if you’re so inclined.
WEATHER: Weather in Los Angeles has been unpredictable. There is always a chance that we will need to cancel a hike to keep you comfortable and safe. If we need to cancel, we will notify you at least 24 hours before.
PRECAUTIONS: A rattlesnake has been spotted on this trail, so please be cautious and mindful of your surroundings.
DOGS: Dogs are welcome, but if you’re going to carry your dog, you will get more of a workout than you may have wanted.
