Mezzo-soprano Antje Lohse and guitarist Stefan Gerritsen will play a warm-blooded Spanish and South American recital. The program includes music by Manuel de Falla, whose music often reflects Moorish influences and Andalusian Flamenco. What many people do not know is that the famous Spanish poet García Lorca also composed and wrote a collection of beautiful folk songs. Antje and Stefan will perform a number of them.

Joaquin Rodrigo is the composer of the famous Concierto de Aranjuez and also of the moving, subdued Pastorcito Santo for soprano and guitar. In addition to the cheerful, dramatic songs by Enrique Granados, atmospheric music from South America will also be heard, including songs by Heitor Villa-Lobos and a tango by Astor Piazzolla.

Antje and Stefan know each other from their studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. They played together for a number of years in the ensemble ‘Het Amsterdams Kwintet’ and have performed as a duo ever since. Antje Lohse sings in music theatre and opera, has performed frequently with chamber choirs such as Cappella Amsterdam and regularly performs chamber music with a varied instrumental line-up. She also likes to develop and produce performances herself in collaboration with contemporary composers.

Stefan Gerritsen is a versatile classical guitarist with a repertoire that ranges from early music to the latest compositions. He also does not shy away from adventure and initiates new projects to expand the repertoire for the classical guitar. 'A magnificent guitarist.' (Volkskrant 22 June 2016)
