Let's see this movie together "Disco Afrika" at Kriterion filmtheater Amsterdam

Details
Through the eyes of 20-year-old Kwame, the film explores the realities of modern-day Madagascar: the struggle for survival, the shadow of colonial legacies, and the enduring spirit of resistance. Echoing the African civil rights and artistic movements of the 1970s, Disko Afrika weaves together a powerful narrative of personal and political awakening.
Following the screening, join us for a panel discussion moderated by Soely Mandrone (Stichting Soamiely Nederland), with contributions from Lala Razafy (music teacher Soamiely Association Madagascar) and Gijs Arnold (member of the Zazamalala Foundation). Together, we’ll reflect on the film and explore themes of cultural memory, political resistance, and the ongoing effects of colonialism.
We invite you to stay after for Malagasy food, drinks, and music in support of Stichting Soamiely Nederland. Through sharing stories, flavours, and community, we hope to honour Madagascar’s rich heritage.
