About us
Come for the puzzles. Stay for the arguments.
We are building a salon of drop-in, guided discussions for smart people who want to think through problems at the cutting edge of philosophy. We value truth, logic, clarity and the respectful exchange of ideas.
If you like paradoxes, “wait—does that follow?” moments, and conversations that get sharper as they go, you’ll fit right in.
We promise there will be no background needed and no homework-just mind-bending questions, better thinking, and a tour through the latest ideas in philosophy.
You’ll meet philosophers and advanced researchers who will help us explore the often elusive world of analytic philosophy. Along the way, you may inadvertently sharpen an argument, clarify a concept, draw a subtle distinction, and think like a philosopher.
No jargon. No background. No homework. Just mind-bending questions, better thinking, and a tour through the latest thinking in philosophy.
Find us at CUNY Graduate Center (Midtown, Manhattan): 365 5th Ave, New York, NY 10016, Room 7113.
Seats are very limited. RSVP required. 100% Free.

Philosophy of Knowledge II
CUNY Graduate Center, 365 5th Ave, New York, NY, USThe fourth session of the Analytic Salon is coming up!
There was quite an appetite about knowledge last time, so this session will continue on the same motif, but with three new puzzles:
- The good old problem of induction (think: Hume).
- The new riddle of induction (ever heard of the grue puzzle?)
- A paradox about surprise exams...You do NOT need to have attended the previous session(s) to attend this one. We presuppose zero knowledge (ha).
This session will be about our reasons to believe and trust science and the scientific method (here at the Salon we do trust science....), about how we know whether the sun will rise tomorrow (here at the Salon we firmly believe it will rise tomorrow...), and about how an announced surprise exam can really be a surprise (here at the Salon we do believe in surprise exams, but we will not administer any; most likely...).
After three sessions that exceeded our expectations, we are exploring a core philosophy area: epistemology. As usual, we will have philosophers on site guiding us through the questions and through some influential theories.
We were struck last time by the intelligence and thoughtfulness of the attendees. We fully expect another smart, vivid discussion.
Daily life offers few chances for discussion on deep topics we actually all have thoughts about. This is a space dedicated to that. Come meet new people, make friends, and share your smartest thoughts in a low-stakes environment. This is not a class!
If you're curious, check out this cool, 6-min video (totally optional!):

We will have refreshments (wine, cheese and crackers, fruit).
As always, this event is 100% free. BUT --- our Center needs and appreciates donations. Any and all amounts help. If you're so inclined, support us here:

FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW US YET:
The Analytic Salon is a series of philosophy gatherings where we crack the code of analytic philosophy. What is it? What is it for? And what is it all about? This is your chance to come meet real philosophers. We don't require ANY knowledge of analytic philosophy: this is meant to be a fun mini-lecture event followed by vivid (and respectful) discussion for non-specialists with sharp and curious minds. Let's chat. We believe quite strongly in logic, truth, rationality as a key to conversation and to intellectual exploration.
Come hang with us! We believe in spreading the word of analytic philosophy beyond the ivory tower.
