Black Belt Test in Tang Soo Do
Details
Curious to see what a rigorous, hard style, classical martial art is? Riverside Martial Arts / LOTSWild has only had 6 black belts in 30 years of training in WNC. Be part of the next phase of our history and support Leo as he takes on the challenge at age 17. The test will begin with white belt material and move through the system, featuring small bits of other styles including filipino and Japanese martial arts studied at the school.
Leo is a local wilderness skills jr. instructor, has set records at pisgah high school for ROTC athletics, wrestles, runs cross country, and has participated in many unique and interesting things. He continues these as well as studying Cherokee language, crafts and practices.
Tang Soo Do is a classical hard style of "Karate", from Korea, more akin to Shotokan than Tae Kwon Do. The test will review techniques up to first dan, or black belt, including forms, self defense, kicks, breaking, weapons, physical endurance, mental challenge/history, and more. The test will take a minimum of three hours and have a board of significant local masters from various other schools including Brian C. Adams, still teaching at 83 years old.
You are welcome for a small part or all of the event but I would like a check in if you're coming on this event page just to get a head count idea in addition to the many folks attending from elsewhere.
