Dogtooth (Dir: Yorgos Lanthimos)
Three teenagers are confined to their family home with no knowledge of what lies beyond the garden fence. Trapped in a state of perpetual adolescence by their controlling parents, the three enact bizarre rituals and make up strange games to pass the time. But the eldest daughter, intrigued by scenes of the wider world glimpsed in old Hollywood films, begins to plot her escape from the surreal prison created by her parents. Nominated for a best foreign film Oscar and winner of the Prix Un Certain Regard at the Cannes film festival, Dogtooth is a darkly funny absurdist study of perverse family dynamics and authority run amuck.
Come on out and join us in a discussion of Dogtooth! I'll leave a copy of Andre Bazin's What is Cinema? on the table to make it easy to spot us (look for the salmon pink cover—you can't miss it).
