What we’re about

Welcome, and thanks for your interest!

This book group will explore fiction (and some non-fiction) books that I’ve either read and enjoyed immensely enough to want to reread or books that have been on my to-read list for a long time. The books selected for this group tend not to be recent releases (there are many other groups focusing on those books if you’re interested), but rather books from the past 100 years, or earlier, that lean heavily toward the literary, experimental, and/or philosophical genres. As such, many of the books come from the 20th Century, Modernist Continental European tradition, but there are also books from authors who come from other parts of the world, as well as books written by female authors. The readings and discussions will be in English. If we are reading a book in translation and you would like to read the book in its original language, please go for it!

We will meet every two weeks and we will read approximately 100 pages for each meeting. The meeting will be to discuss the assigned reading and to go over any passages we found to be interesting and/or beautiful.

The meetings will be held in-person in Tavira. There may also be online meetings if time permits.

This is the current list of books we will be reading over the next several months:
