Aretéanism (ahr-eh-tay-un-ism) is a new, humanist religion! Areté is an ancient Greek word for the virtue of excellence in all things. It's about being the best humans we can be, both individually and as entire peoples.
Rather than worshipping unseen beings or mystical energy fields, we believe that we should instead focus on improving the human experience! That's why we've chosen to Be Excellent to Each Other, and Party On!

Every year, near to the waning northern cross-quarter day, Aretéans gather in their communities to celebrate the Third Tenet of Aretéanism, “The Intent of the Law, Is the Law” along with its corresponding maxim that “We trust in the human capacity for reason”. It’s a day that venerates individual interpretation, critical thinking, and even rebellion.
We'll be partying all day! Feel free to get your Reason Day holiday started early with us, or just show up for dinner and convocation!

- 1700h - Potluck feast
- 1900h - Holiday convocation
- 2000h - Party On!
We'll sit down together as a community to share a delicious meal with each other. Great company begets great conversation, and this will be a meal to remember! Anything that breaks the “rules” of culinary tradition is extremely welcome this day! Additionally, it’s traditional for us to have a tapas-like smorgasbord buffet meal, with lots of different options. You can use your own human capacity for reason to choose which tastes to try!

We'll be wearing our most punk outfits to celebrate our individuality and rebellion! Whether you do something wild with your hair or just wear a t-shirt with a counter-culture message on it, we encourage you to break free from stodgy fashion rules!It's also traditional for us to salute rebels and iconoclasts who have inspired us during the meeting. Think ahead about who your favorite rule breakers have been and be prepared to share!
