What we’re about

Hello everyone, and welcome to our bike group, BRCG.

The group has been organising rides around Barcelona since it was founded by Michel Goossens in 2009. It is a non-profit self-organizing network of cyclists and friends, built around a core of around 30 approved organizers who create and post rides for BRCG members. New members are very welcome, especially if they'd like to organise rides for the Group.

This is primarily a road biking group, and rides are open for all road cyclists at different levels of fitness, so do not hesitate to sign up for events. Many of us also have gravel bikes, so gravel rides may also be posted from time to time, but not rides for mountain bikes, or electric bikes.

BRCG is not a competitive group, we adapt our pace to assure everyone can stay together and we wait for each other at the top and bottoms of climbs, descents, etc. Rides are proposed at a variety of different levels, distances and degrees of intensity. Ride organisers will state the distance of each ride, how much climbing, and give an idea of the expected pace of the group, as well as a map of the route. Average speed on a whole trip will be between 20-30Km/h. Rides are sometimes defined as Beginners', Intermediate or Advanced, but the organiser will give a guide to the expected pace of the group. If you are unsure if it is suitable for you, just ask the organizer.

If you would like to start designing and posting rides, no matter how short or long, contact the group and we can add you as an organizer. As such you will plan the route and publish a map, with details of when and where to start, distance, duration, etc. on our Meetup page, and then lead the ride.

Some basic guidelines for our excursions: rides are not competitive, so we always wait and re-group at the top and bottom of climbs, or key points along the route, so no-one is left behind or gets lost. (If your pace is very different to the rest of the group, just advise the ride leader and exit the ride).

Take care of yourself and other cyclists, especially when riding in a group. Make sure you signal to those behind you of any obstacles in the road, keep to the traffic rules (many cyclists jump red lights on their own, but in a group this can be dangerous), and avoid sudden braking, cutting others off etc.

Joining rides is naturally at your own risk and none of the organizers or Meetup can accept any responsibility for mishaps or misunderstandings on the trip. If you signed up, pleased show up; if you’re late or can’t make it, let your organizer know (especially if the group is small). Always bring basic tools, pump and a spare tire in case of technical problems. Saving the ride to your bike computer means you wont get lost and can find your way home if you leave the group.

Lastly, the groups are all run on a voluntary basis by enthusiasts, for pleasure. None of the groups are led by professional tour organizers of any kind. There are no commercial or financial interests, We post rides because we enjoy riding with friends, making new ones, and discovering routes. And we want to share our love for riding through the fabulous landscapes around Barcelona!
Salut, saludos, and welcome!
