Chippenham Film Club: Cinema Paradiso

Chippenham Film Club brings movies to the town that would not normally be seen on the big screen. Films are monthly, shown at The Reel and patrons need to be at least 16 years of age. No membership required. Tickets are £7.50, which is reduced to £4.50 after joining.

In Italian with English subtitles. One of my most favourite films, Cinema Paradiso won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the Cannes Festival's Grand Prix and was nominated for 11 BAFTAs, winning five.

A young Salvatore Di Vita discovers the perfect escape from life in his war-torn Sicilian village at the Cinema Paradiso movie house where projectionist Alfredo instils in him a deep affection for films. When Salvatore grows up he falls in love with a beautiful local girl, and takes over as the Paradiso's projectionist, but Alfredo must convince him to leave his small town and pursue his passion for filmmaking.

Please arrive promptly as there are no adverts or trailers so all performances start exactly at 7.30pm. Seating is unreserved so if you would like to sit in a particular spot it's best to arrive a few minutes early.
