Join us for a live presentation with Sam Reynolds about declination and out-of-bounds planets.

This is a pay-what-can in-person event at the New York Theosophical Society. No one is turned away for lack of funds at the door. You may also join the Zoom livestream that night for a small $5.85 required fee. This fee is necessary to prevent Zoom bombers.

Event Description:

Join us for a conversation with Sam Reynolds about interpreting when planets go wild and “out of bounds.”

The late astrologer Katherine Boehrer coined the term ‘out of bounds,’ focusing on the Sun’s predictable movement along the ecliptic and the perceived vertical zone it inhabits when its daily arc is either lower or higher in the sky.

For example, in the northern hemisphere, on the day of the Summer Solstice, the sun’s daily arc is at its highest and longest, reaching +23.44° above the celestial equator.

On the flip side, in the northern hemisphere, on the day of the Winter Solstice, the Sun’s daily arc is at its lowest and shortest, reaching −23.44° below the celestial equator.

As a rule, the Sun never goes beyond +23.44° above or −23.44° below the celestial equator, which are the two extremes set by the solstices.

However, because of asymmetries in the planets’ orbits, planets sometimes appear to travel higher in the sky than the Sun ever could, as measured in celestial latitude. Or they appear to be far lower than the sun ever could be in celestial latitude. Once planets cross this 23.44° degree threshold of declination, they become known as “Out-of-Bounds.”

In her 1994 book Declination: The Other Dimension, Katherine Boehrer observed how once planets go out of bounds, the energies and drives they represent become far more independent, wild, unbridled, unfiltered, and can be difficult for the individual to control. They can also be the source of immense creativity.

Since the 1990s, Katherine Boehrer’s research has taken off. Many other astrologers have confirmed and expanded on her findings about how unusual planets behave when they go out of bounds. It is one of the most important developments in modern astrology.

One intriguing feature of the solar system's geometry is that the Moon, Venus, Mars, and Uranus can frequently go out of bounds. However, Pluto can stay out of bounds for long stretches and, after 2035, won’t go out of bounds for thousands of years. Jupiter rarely goes out of bounds, but Saturn and Neptune never do.

Sam Reynolds will share his perspective on how to work with the out-of-bounds planet and how to convert it from an obstacle into an advantage for individuals.

$$ In Person Event:
A suggested donation is $5 -$30 is very VERY much appreciated, but please know whatever you can afford is acceptable. Donations collected pay our rent, Meetup.com fees, and the honorarium for Sam Reynolds. You may bring cash to donate on the evening of the event, or you can donate online by purchasing a livestream ticket.
