The Black Humanist Project

The Black Humanist Project includes and recognizes Black atheists, agnostics, and freethinkers in the secular humanist community. Importantly, all races and ethnicities are welcome to join and belong. If our purpose of inclusivity speaks to you, you have a place here. We center the experiences of Black nonreligious people, who are often left out of secular spaces and underrepresented in secular groups, especially at the leadership level. We ensure recognize the past and present contributions of Black freethinkers to the secular humanist movement. We reject tokenizing individual Black people. We oppose racism, discrimination, and all forms of bigotry. We challenge stereotypes about Black people and Black nonreligious people in particular. This is a place to find others who share your outlook, perspectives, lived experience, speak about life without religion, and build lasting connections. The Black Humanist Project is not affiliated with any other atheist, humanist, or secular group. We meet for discussion, socials, and guest talks. Our focus is reason, science, empathy, phycological safety, inclusion. and human flourishing. We think a meaningful life can rest on reality and care for one another rather than doctrine or dogma.
