What we’re about
The Black Nerds of NYC is a group designed to serve as safe place for persons of African descent who identify with Nerd culture.
As persons of color we operate daily in a world where we have to conform as persons of color AND nerds. In addition to learning new things and having fun together - the Blerds of NYC can find solace as POCs by being their complete nerdy black selves, which is not a given in our day to day lives.
How you identify yourself is not our call. We ask that you ascertain honestly whether you can relate to the Black Nerd experience before requesting to join the group.
While we of all groups support and encourage educating one self - this is not a space for non-Blerds to promote their own agendas, observe or learn about Blerd culture.
This is a space for Blerds to connect and be themselves.
