What we’re about
This is a book club for fans of speculative fiction who wish they had someone to talk to about imagining women and queers in the future, in space or after the apocalypse. Someone to get excited with when there's a decent character you can relate to!
It's a big plate of fandom, with a side serving of intersectional feminist/womanist/queer critique.
We'll be reading science fiction, speculative fiction, dystopias, utopias, space operas, afro-futurism, and others as written by women, or starring fully-formed women or non-binary characters.
You are welcome no matter your previous exposure to sci-fi/spec-fi, and no matter your gender and other identities.
The bookclub at the edge of the universe meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the CBD, close to public transport.
Please be advised that membership applications are screened to ensure a safe, inclusive and fun space that engenders good conversations informed by intersectional feminist perspectives about speculative fiction books. Please remember to address this when answering the join questions - "I'm interested in learning more about these ideas" is a perfectly valid response! Men who can't be bothered to write a more involved answer than 'books' or 'scifi' when seeking to join up will be declined.
