What we’re about
A support group for LGBTQ+ individuals navigating love, identity, and family across cultural divides.
Growing up queer with parents from Soviet backgrounds often means living in a quiet in-between — a space where cultural expectations, generational trauma, and silence about queerness can create deep emotional isolation.
The Borderlands is a peer-led support group created for LGBTQ+ folks who have experienced this unique crossroads. Whether you're out, closeted, or somewhere in between, this is a space for shared stories, mutual validation, and healing.
Together, we unpack the complexities of:
- Coming out (or not) in families shaped by Soviet cultural norms
- Holding pride and pain in the same breath
- Generational conflict, love, and survival
- Language barriers, repression, and diaspora identity
- Parental/familial estrangement
This is a space for anyone who feels stuck between worlds—but no longer wants to feel stuck alone.
